enabling communities

We offer impartial advice and support to help organisations and community groups think through ideas, develop them into projects, consult, plan and take action.

Our staff work with voluntary and community organisations and groups across County Durham. We provide advice and information to tackle specific queries, issues and concerns, help to find solutions to problems, and support to develop new and existing projects and initiatives. We can provide hands on help or the right resources, including training for trustees and volunteers, governance advice and help with funding advice, business planning and funding applications.

Our support encompasses a wide range of specialist advice, and access to the kind of  information and training that is both relevant and useful.  We support volunteers who manage village halls and community buildings, enabling them to keep on top of legislation. We also ensure that they have strong management committees able to plan and manage financially, and that they can develop activities which reach their local communities and keep their halls open and thriving.

We also help communities to have local conversations about issues that are important, helping them to find the right solutions. We have a long history and experience in supporting communities, together with Parish and Town Councils to consult and complete community plans and Neighbourhood Planning.  This support includes plenty of resources, advice and support services to consult, gather information, share knowledge and ideas, and to develop local action plans.
