We are offering free, independent energy advice to households across County Durham, with a particular focus on supporting rural and off-gas communities.
Our qualified energy advisors can visit you in your home to provide personalised, practical guidance tailored to your property and needs.

During a visit, we can help identify where energy is being lost, including the option of using a thermal imaging camera, and we’ll talk you through simple changes that could improve comfort, reduce your energy use, and save you money.
We can provide free energy-saving measures, such as lightbulbs, radiator foil, and draught excluders, as well as advice and support around carbon monoxide safety, providing free detectors where appropriate. Our advisors can guide you in using home heating controls such as thermostats and thermostatic radiator valves (TRVs), helping you get the most out of your system and manage your energy more effectively.
We also offer support with understanding your energy bills, comparing tariffs, and ensuring you are on the best deal for your household. We may also be able to help you identify potential funding or grant opportunities through the Warm Homes Plan for longer-term energy saving solutions, including low-carbon heating options.
Our advice is friendly, impartial, and completely free; no sales. We’re here to help you make informed decisions about creating a warmer, more energy-efficient, and low-carbon home.
We also work with local community groups and organisations across County Durham to raise awareness and share practical energy advice. If you would like us to visit your group, deliver a talk or support your organisation with energy information and guidance, please get in touch by emailing info@durhamcommunityaction.org.uk.
