Three Cheers for Volunteers!

Durham Community Action welcomed around 200 volunteers, nominees and VIP guests to their Volunteering Celebration event at Beamish Museum on 14th June 2017.

The event recognised and showcased the volunteering achievements of individuals and groups; volunteers and their guests visited the 1900’s towns and exhibits, enjoyed refreshments in the tearooms and all nominated volunteers received certificates at a formal ceremony in the Masonic Hall.

Jo Laverick, Executive Director of Durham Community Action said of the event:

“Thanks to Beamish, Durham Community Action were able to give volunteers in County Durham a proper thank you. We all felt like VIP’s. It was a wonderful evening to celebrate all of the contribution made by volunteers to community life in County Durham.”

Jo also quoted some recent figures on volunteering taken from the recent Third Sector Trends Study 2016 – there are 150,000 volunteers in the north-east region. In 2008 the ‘replacement value’ for the volunteering effort was £124 million; now it has increased to £131 million.”

Durham Community Action would like to thank all the sponsors of the event: Durham County Council, Banks Group, County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service, Lloyds Bank, Office of Durham Police, Crime and Victims Commissioner and Beamish.

The event was thoroughly enjoyed by attendees:
