Hartlepool and East Durham Mind have been commissioned by Durham County Council to deliver free mental health training sessions for SME and VCS organisations with fewer than 250 staff and based in County Durham. The training will initially be delivered online, with easy to access, short and accessible training session and follow up support sessions. The mental health training hub is needed now more than ever. With the recent experience of lockdown and ongoing stresses and challenges the SME and VSC sector are facing we all need to take more time to understand the impact of mental health on the workplace and the difficulties people are facing. We need practical help, tips and advice to give people confidence in working with distress, providing support and ensuring people get the right type of help form professional services when required.

The training courses that will be provided will cover the following issues: first aid for mental health, resilience training and mutual aid support. A number of familiar course and some new exciting wellbeing and mental health improvement courses will be available.

Mental health can be experienced in varies ways from feeling good with positive wellbeing along the continuum to becoming being stressed and feeling distressed. The training hub will provide business owners with practical tips and advice to maintain wellbeing, understand how to approach conversations around mental health and how to other support to people struggling with stress and distress. The courses will also provide business owners with strategies into developing a mentally healthy workplace.

We have active sharing of relevant and accessible information and resources that contribute to workforce wellbeing. The website will provide the training hub with online booking, course outlines, resources and forum to help build the wellbeing community by providing feedback and sharing tips and ideas on how to further develop this service.
