SAFEGUARDING UPDATE AUGUST 2020

18th Aug 2020

Please find below our latest Safeguarding updates:

Protect Young Eyes

At the request of a Detective Inspector from Durham Constabulary Prevent Team we have been asked to make you aware of the website protectyoungeyes.com which aims to defend children from online dangers and also educate parents/families/teachers etc. about online safety.

The website has an alphabetical list of the most popular platforms for Social Media, Gaming, Photo and Video Apps. There is a full explanation of each platform, identifying any risks to children and giving a ‘bottom line’ regarding the safety of use. The website also includes presentations and free webinars to help educate all users in online safety.

Safeguarding Fact Sheets

The Safer Culture North East partners have been continuing to work to adapt the project to meet the specific demands of the current situation creating some further easy to read factsheets for the sector around writing safeguarding polices designed as brief introductions to the subject matter with links showing where to get further information for people and organisations who are new to safeguarding and having to respond quickly whilst facing enormous challenges.

The PDF versions of the factsheets can be downloaded HERE

Safeguarding Training

Durham Safeguarding Children Partnership

In line with the DSCP Restoration Plan, work has been undertaken to relaunch the DSCP Training Programme via a virtual training platform.  This means that all face to face training has been cancelled and replaced by either virtual training platforms or narrated slideshows.

There are some sessions highlighted below which may be of particular interest to those who already have some knowledge of safeguarding within their organisations:

Harm Matrix Training: 22 September 9.30-11.30am – MS Teams Live

Signs of Safety Briefings: 16 September 1.30-3.30pm, 27 October 9.30-11.30am, 10 December 1.30 - 3.30pm  – All MS Teams Live
