Nominations for the Durham Community Action Volunteering Awards 2014 have now closed.  We have received a large number of entries, and our judging panels now have the unenviable task of choosing the winners from amongst the many inspirational stories of commitment and dedication.

All the winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony to be held at Ramside Hall Hotel, Durham on Thursday 16 October 2014.  Details will also be published in The Northern Echo and on our website.

The aim of the awards is to recognise and celebrate the fantastic work done and to encourage wider participation.

Award Categories - Recognising volunteers who give up their time, without financial reward to improve the lives of others:

  • Altogether Healthier  - health and wellbeing of others – sponsored by both Durham Clinical Commissioning Groups
  • Altogether Greener  - improving  the environment – sponsored by The Banks Group
  • Altogether Wealthier  - improving the local economy/financial wellbeing of families – sponsored by Northumbrian Water
  • Altogether Safer - safety of others and/or improving the cohesiveness of communities – sponsored by the County Durham Police Commissioner
  • Altogether Better Children & Young People - maximising opportunities,  aspirations and potential  - sponsored by Beamish Museum

Jane Morland, from Northumbrian Water’s partnership team, said: “We know that volunteering can bring significant social, economic and environmental benefits and we are proud to be able to sponsor these awards and all the nominees should be very proud too as they will be making an invaluable contribution to their local areas and County Durham as a whole. We wish them all the best of luck.”
