Jo Laverick

Executive Director

Jo has been Executive Director for DCA since 2004, during which time she has developed a broad ethos of community support for County Durham, which embraces the needs of the voluntary and community sector and a responsive understanding of rural issues and infrastructure.

With over 40 years of experience, she has a professional background as a practitioner and as a manager in community and economic development, through her work in local authorities, charities and enterprises within the voluntary sector.

Jo began her career working with communities and families in disadvantaged areas of the North East, graduating to developing and managing large-scale programmes and initiatives in both the public and voluntary sector spheres. She developed a strong understanding, and expertise of rural issues, starting in 1995, when she developed and managed community based approaches to managing EU funding for locally generated initiatives in rural north Northumberland. This work included coordination and support for community plans, and establishment of local Development Trusts.

Prior to joining DCA, Jo worked with the regional development agency, One NorthEast, where her responsibilities included Fisheries, Food & Drink, Market Towns, sustainable tourism and the regional Rural Action Plan.

As Executive Director for DCA, Jo has continued to champion the work of communities and the voluntary sector, and to act as an advocate for their aspirations.
