Community Development Workshops

We are committed to following government advice about managing our services and resources in light of COVID-19.  For these reasons, we are postponing our current training programme until further notice. 

Durham Community Action are running a series of community development workshops for village halls and community buildings committees, volunteer led organisations and community groups based on topics we regularly receive enquiries about:

Understanding Trustee Responsibilities

This practical workshop will explain trustees responsibilities and help you to develop an action plan that will help your organisation move forward more effectively.

Volunteers and the Law

This workshop is aimed staff / volunteers who are responsible for volunteer management. This is a practical session which covers how the law applies to recruiting, supporting and managing volunteers, understanding the Disclosure and Barrings process and when it is required, using the correct language when recruiting volunteers and identifying the difference between good practice and the law when working with volunteers.

Getting Started on Facebook 

A practical workshop that will focus on understanding Facebook for your voluntary or community organisation, how to set up an account on Facebook, adding information, creating events and managing your settings.

This workshop will focus on understanding your responsibilities and developing a data protection policy for your voluntary or community organisation.

Grow your Community Group using Social Media

This practical session will cover understanding the different social media platforms, how to use social media to develop your community group, developing your social media strategy and managing your privacy setting and editors on the different platforms.

Protecting your Charity’s Finances

This is a practical session on recording your accounts; topics will include keeping basic payment and receipt accounts, cashflow and restricted funds.

Completing a Funding Application – Bring Your Project to Life! 

This is a practical session with specialist support to complete funding applications. Come along with a project idea to allow us to help you research suitable funders and complete the relevant applications.

All courses will take place at the Durham Community Action offices – 9 St Stephen’s Court, Low Willington, Crook, Co. Durham DL15 0BF.

All courses cost £25.00 per person except Completing a Funding Application – this session is 3 hours and costs £35.00 per person, and Understanding Safeguarding which is part of Safer Culture North East, a partnership between Catalyst Stockton-on-Tees, Connected Voice, Durham Community Action, Northumberland CVA and VONNE, funded jointly by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, and The National Lottery Community Fund.
