FREE Sport and Youth Justice Practitioner Engagement Day, Wednesday 20th June, Newton Aycliffe Leisure Centre, DL5 4EH

"I am writing to invite you to an engagement day we are hosting that will discuss the opportunities that exist to utilise sport and physical activity as a more valued referral route for those young people at risk of offending or re-offending.

Due to an increasing alignment between Policing, Youth Justice and Sports sector policy, the time is right to explore how these can be best utilised across Durham and Darlington.

The event aims to explore the challenges to creating a robust and fit for purpose referral framework across Durham and Darlington that would see vulnerable young people being referred into appropriate physical activity environments.

The event will be delivered in partnership with national charity StreetGames and will bring together partners from across youth justice, community safety and community sports sector, to address the challenges and identify solutions.

Having your views on the day will greatly enhance this conversation and I very much hope you will prioritise this event.

The main aims of the day will be to work towards the development of a toolkit which could be used by sports and development and youth justice workers to encourage the use of sport in the desistance of offending. Once piloted and developed it is intended that this is rolled out nationally.

If you would like to attend please register your interest by clicking hereA detailed agenda will be sent out before the event. If you are unable to attend please pass this on to another colleague.

If you have any questions or would like to discuss this further please contact Stephanie Kilili on 0191 3752001.

Yours sincerely,

Ron Hogg

Durham Police, Crime and Victims’ Commissioner"
